How do I plan a Christmas light display with MyLightPlanner?
Upload a photo of your house, draw a line over something with a known length (like a garage door) to calibrate the scale, then trace your rooflines and windows as light strings. MyLightPlanner calculates bulb counts and generates a job sheet automatically.
How accurate is the photo calibration?
Calibration is based on a single real-world measurement you provide (e.g. a door is 80 inches tall). Every other distance in the photo is computed from that scale, so accuracy depends on how precisely you draw the calibration line and how square-on the photo is. For sections of the house at a different depth, you can set a custom per-segment scale to correct for perspective.
How many light strings or bulbs do I need for my roofline?
MyLightPlanner measures the pixel length of every segment you draw, converts it to real-world units using your calibration, and divides by your chosen bulb spacing to get an exact bulb count per strand — no manual measuring or guesswork.
What's the difference between a light string and an extension cord in the app?
A light string segment represents an actual strand of lights and is used to calculate bulb counts. An extension cord segment is a run with no bulbs — it's for planning power routing (e.g. from an outlet to the start of a light run) and is excluded from the bulb count.
Can MyLightPlanner generate a shopping list or job sheet?
Yes. Once your layout is drawn, the job sheet view totals strand counts, extension cord lengths, and materials needed, with AI-powered installation notes for anything unusual about your layout.
Is MyLightPlanner free to use?
